NORTHUMBERLAND HOUSE SURGERY

This is a semi-urban practice of about 12,000 patients situated on the Stourport side of Kidderminster. The practice area covers some of the most deprived areas of the town but also extends to the more affluent surrounding countryside. Converted from two large Victorian houses it provides spacious accommodation that includes 10 consulting rooms, a fully equipped operating theatre (the practice is a local vasectomy centre) and a large, recently modernised nursing department.

There are eight doctors (5 F/T male and 3 P/T female) all of whom are involved in training (either undergraduate or post graduate)

Your trainer would be Dr Judith Hardwick who would share training responsibilities with Dr Chris Wilkinson. Judith is part time doctor and has a particular interest in women’s health. As a family planning training doctor she can supervise your family planning training for DFFP in house. Chris is one of the VTS course organisers.

A full time GP registrar at Northumberland house would work 7/8 surgeries per week and assist at one child health or antenatal clinic. You would have one half day, attend the local VTS scheme for another half day and finish after lunch on Fridays two weeks out of three.

This is run from the Wyre Forest Primary Care Centre, which is situated at the local hospital ½ mile from the surgery. A full time Registrar would work approx 2 shifts each month under the supervision of one of the doctors in the practice. Day on- call covering the surgery is a 1:6 rota.
