The Practice

This is a market town practice of about 9,250 patients. The main surgery above is situated within the Bromsgrove Centre. We also have a small branch surgery at the nearby village of Wychbold. The practice covers a mixed urban and rural community. It provides spacious accommodation that includes six consulting rooms. We have been a training practice for 15 years. We have a fully computerised consultation/ prescribing system - the System 6000 Clinician (TOREX Health@).

 

The Doctors

There are four full time Partners (2 males/ 2 females) and four GP Assistants. (One 2-day female assistant, one 3-day female assistant, two 1-day male assistants). The assistants have varied areas of clinical interest, one is a prison doctor but does sessions in general practice to keep up to date, another is a clinical assistant in psychiatry, and one has a wealth of experience in paediatrics. The trainer is Dr John Hall who shares training responsibilities with Dr Rebecca Hall (no relation). Other partners are also actively involved in training.

John Hall – Trainer

Dr Hall joined the practice in 1983. He has been a trainer for 15 years. His medical interests include orthopaedics, paediatrics, diabetes and asthma. He has been an Immediate Care practitioner for 20 years and is currently an examiner in Immediate Care for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Outside interest include Rugby, sheep keeping and gardening.

Anne Fellowes – Snr Partner

Dr Fellowes has been a partner since 1982. Previously a Trainer. Main medical interests include Psychiatry (Section 12 approved), obstetrics and paediatrics. She is also a Family Planning Trainer.

Chris Heath – Partner

Dr Heath – partner since 1988. He has special medical interests in Cardiovascular and Respiratory diseases and, Minor surgery. Also a Forensic Medical Officer for the West Mercier Constabulary. Plays a lead role in the local PCT. Leisure pursuits include, skiing, cricket and squash.

Rebecca Hall – Partner

Dr Rebecca, as she is popularly called, has been a partner since February 2001. Actively involved in training. Medical interests include Family planning and Time 4U Clinics. Leisure pursuits – Eventing, Polo and walking.

The GP Registrar

There is one GP Registrar who enjoys a dedicated, fully equipped consulting room. Our Registrar is exposed to a wealth of experience from the varied interests of the partners and assistants. There is very modern and fully functional video equipment for Summative Assessment and MRCGP exams. A full time GP registrar at St John’s would work 8 surgeries per week. You would attend the local VTS scheme for a half day and would finish after lunch on Fridays (except when on call for the surgery). The timetable below is however, flexible.

On Call

There are three types of on call.

(a) Surgery on call – Weekday: (08:30 – 18.30) at a frequency of one per week,

Saturday: (08:30 – 12:00) frequency 1 in 5.

(b) Minor Injuries Unit (MIU): When on call for the surgery on a Friday, you may be expected to cover the MIU from 2-5 pm. The MIU is located at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital, Bromsgrove.

(c) Out of Hours cover (OOH); the local Bromsgrove out of hours Cooperative (BROMDOC) of which the practice is a member is currently providing this. The BROMDOC is based at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove. A full time Registrar would work approx one night each month and weekend (1 in 10), under the supervision of one of the partners in the practice.

 

St John’s is a nice, friendly and supportive practice with an enviable record – the place for you to do your Registrar year.
