GP Training at New Road Surgery, Bromsgrove
Reasons for becoming a Registrar at New Road Surgery (NRS)
We like training! Although you will have a nominated trainer (either
William Dowley or Paddy Blacker) we are all involved in training. This
means that there is a training culture at the surgery which means that you
always feel well-supported.
We also like learning and expect to learn from you during your time with
us.
We will help you get through Summative Assessment and (if you like) the
MRCGP with the minimum of fuss.
You will have a comprehensive, two-week induction programme when you start
so that you do not feel thrown in at the deep end.
You have a full morning every week of formal teaching and informal teaching
every day of the week, mostly at our daily coffee time. The quality of
biscuits is second to none.
Your room is nice and big, and is your own for the whole year – you can
arrange it/decorate it how you like. There’s even a fish tank outside it (the
fish are a bit small though).
Excellent study leave arrangements.
Background to NRS
NRS is one of four practices within the town of Bromsgrove. We have 10,000
patients and six partners (Paddy Blacker, Penny Dykes, William Dowley, Sian
Hotham, Penny Dowley and Andy Fairhurst). Special interests of the partners
include Clinical Governance (Paddy is the CG Lead for our PCG), diabetes,
asthma, palliative care and family planning. You will be able to do all your
Family Planning training at the surgery, as Penny Dowley is a Family Planning
trainer.
We are proud of our surgery and the team spirit within it. In December 2000
we were awarded the Investors In People standard. This means we have a
continuing interest in improving the training and working conditions of
everybody who works for us (including you!).
We have:
An excellent computer system (EMIS) which has enabled us to be as paperless
as possible.
A Nurse Practitioner (Isabel Hyde) who, as well as running our nurse
department, also sees many of our patients with minor illnesses.
In-house physio, social worker and health visitor
Community Hospital beds
A good town co-operative for out of hours work. You will do about one night
a month and one weekend in every ten, covered at all times by one of the
partners.
Helpful and friendly staff.
